Family Allowances (AF)
Contributions
If you are self-employed, you have to contribute to the family allowance scheme whether you have children or not. In the Canton of Vaud, the contributions will correspond to 2.80 % of your AVS-declared income, with an upper annual income limit of CHF 148'200. Our Compensation Fund does not charge any administrative costs. If you work in another canton, you should contact our offices.
Allowances
You can obtain different types of family allowances provided your annual income is more than CHF 7'350.- and if you are deemed entitled to family allowances. The main allowances are: child benefits which are paid from the month of birth until the month of the child’s 16th birthday, or 20th birthday for children unable to b; a vocational training allowance which is paid from the month that follows the child’s 16th birthday until the end of the training, but not beyond its 20th birthday; a birth or adoption allowance which is paid insofar as the mother is domiciled in Switzerland during the nine-month period preceding the birth.
How to proceed
To claim child benefits you need to register with our Compensation Office and then fill in a claim form for all the children you are responsible for. You will have to fill in a new claim form for each subsequent birth or adoption.
